Tunisia is a North African country bordered by Algeria and Libya. The northernmost country in Africa, nearly half of the country is comprised of the Sahara Desert, though a large majority of the rest is composed of fertile, arable land. The area comprising of Tunisia has played an important part in history. Among others, it was considered the bread basket of the Roman Empire.

Though the country is relatively small, it enjoys great geographical diversity. The geography can go from mountains, to farmland, to desert within a matter of a few miles in some points. For example the Dorsel, an extension of the Atlas Mountains, is located in the northeastern area of the region, whereas the northwestern area of the country is characterized by smooth, flat, rolling hills while a good majority of the rest is a desert. Very few inhabit the southern region. One of the best exports the country is known for is for its olive production.
