Packaged foods, condiments, and prepared meals framed the .heinz application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Food manufacturers with century-old brands carry an authentication interest tied to recipe and ingredient integrity: product formulations differ by market for regulatory and taste reasons, and consumers checking allergen or nutritional information need certainty the data matches the product in their hand.

Packaged food brands were a modest contingent in the round relative to their consumer recognition, with most preferring defensive registration across open extensions to operating a registry. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and cannot be registered by any party.
