.sapo Domain

Web portal, email, and internet services in Portugal framed the .sapo application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. National portals carry a distinctive exposure: they combine search, news, and email for a large share of a country's internet users, so a single compromised credential set reaches across several services at once.

The string is also the ordinary Portuguese and Spanish word for toad, a collision characteristic of short brand names drawn from everyday vocabulary. Portuguese applicants were a small contingent in the round, clustering around telecoms and internet services. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
