Kitchen tools and direct-sales cookware framed the .pamperedchef application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Direct-sales businesses present the dealer-verification problem in its sharpest form: thousands of independent consultants each want a personal web presence, and customers have no way to distinguish an authorised consultant from an unaffiliated seller trading on the brand.

An owned extension is one of the few structural answers to that, giving every consultant an address whose legitimacy is visible in the string itself. Direct-sales applicants were rare in the round despite the fit. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
