Information technology and business services framed the .csc application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Three-letter strings carried value independent of their sector, and in enterprise IT a closed namespace has an additional function: service endpoints, support portals, and client documentation are referenced inside customer systems and security allowlists, where an address that cannot be registered by an outsider is safe to trust by default.

A registry agreement was signed and the extension entered the root zone, but ICANN issued a notice of termination in March 2022. Terminated strings are not released to the open market — .csc cannot be registered, transferred, or acquired by any party, and the loss of a three-letter string is the costliest category of attrition from the round.
