.connectors Domain

The .connectors string is an ordinary English plural noun covering electrical and electronic connection components — a substantial industrial category spanning circular connectors, terminal blocks, backplanes, and cable assemblies. Applying for a descriptive trade term at the top level was a recognizable 2012-round strategy, on the reasoning that a namespace naming the product category carries meaning to specifying engineers that a corporate name does not.

Descriptive plural strings of this kind sat in the contested territory between brand and generic that shaped much of the round's policy debate, and few of them reached sustained operation. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration, leaving the category without a dedicated namespace.
