The .aigo domain extension was applied for during ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program as a single-registrant namespace in consumer electronics. Chinese applicants were strongly represented in that round, and the reasoning was frequently market-specific: a dedicated extension offered a way to present a domestic brand consistently in Latin script for international audiences while retaining full control of the namespace.

A registry agreement was signed in August 2015, the extension carried ICANN's Specification 13 .brand designation, and the agreement was later terminated. Consumer electronics brand TLDs saw considerable post-delegation attrition, as fast product cycles made a permanent namespace a poor fit for campaign-led marketing. The string cannot be registered by any party and is not available on the aftermarket.
