通販 is a Japanese term for mail-order and online retail, a contraction of a longer compound, applied for in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program as a two-character namespace. It is a descriptive category word rather than a brand — the Japanese equivalent of applying for .shopping or .mailorder.

The extension resolves through xn--gk3at1e. Registration is closed to the public and the extension carries no aftermarket. Descriptive strings in non-Latin scripts sit in the same contested territory as English closed generics, with the difference that far fewer objectors were positioned to notice them during the round's comment periods.
