.联通 Domain Information
联通 is the Chinese-script counterpart to .unicom, filed by the same telecommunications operator in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. The characters mean roughly "connect through", making this a rare case where a corporate name is also a plain description of the service — the string reads as both brand and function to a Chinese speaker.
Internationalised domain names resolve through an ASCII-compatible encoding, here xn--8y0a063a, which is the form stored in registry systems while the characters are what users see and type. Registration is closed to the public and the extension carries no aftermarket. Filing native-script alongside Latin-script strings was standard for operators serving markets where the Latin alphabet carries no meaning.
