工行 is the Chinese-script counterpart to .icbc, filed by the same commercial bank in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. The two characters are the bank's everyday short name in Chinese — a contraction of its full four-character name, in the same way the Latin string abbreviates the English one.

Serving account bases in the hundreds of millions gives the native-script string a practical advantage the Latin abbreviation lacks: customers recognize the characters without translation. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
