.xperia Domain

Smartphones and mobile devices framed the .xperia application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. It is a product-line string filed alongside a corporate-level application by the same electronics group, targeting a device brand rather than the company behind it.

Device manufacturers face the firmware and support abuse pattern common across consumer hardware, where update pages are searched for by owners of handsets bought years earlier. Product-line strings proved among the least durable in the round, since a device range can be repositioned or discontinued on an ordinary product cycle. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
