.telefonica Domain

Telecommunications across Spain, Latin America, and Europe framed the .telefonica application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Operators running one corporate identity across many national markets face the sector's exposure compounded by geography: subscriber self-care and billing pages exist separately in each country, historically on unrelated domains with no consistent pattern for customers to recognize.

It was filed alongside .movistar, separating the corporate parent from the consumer brand — a split that recurs wherever the name customers know differs from the name on the accounts. The string drops an accent present in the Spanish spelling. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
