Web portal, search, and online media services in China sit behind .sohu, a short restricted extension from ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. National portals combine news, video, search, and email for very large user bases, concentrating several credential surfaces into a single account relationship.

Use covers portal and media destinations, video and gaming services, and corporate content. Registration is closed to the public and the extension carries no aftermarket. Chinese applicants formed one of the round's largest national contingents, and the portal operators among them filed some of the earliest non-Western platform strings to reach the root.
