Cloud file storage and synchronisation framed the .skydrive application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. It is one of the clearest illustrations of product-name fragility in the round: the service it named was renamed shortly after the application following a trademark dispute, leaving a string permanently bound to a product identity no longer in use.

A second-level domain can be redirected when a product is renamed; an extension cannot. That asymmetry is the central risk of filing at product level rather than corporate level, and this string is the round's most direct example of it.
