Retail, wholesale, and environmental services framed the .schwarzgroup application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. It appends a corporate designation to a family name — a construction used throughout the round to disambiguate a string that would otherwise be hopelessly ambiguous, since the bare surname is common vocabulary in German.

Filing both the plain name and the qualified form was a recognized defensive tactic, securing the family of related strings so competitors could not take an adjacent one. In practice, variant applications were among the earliest retired once operating costs were weighed against actual use. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
