Luxury hotels, trains, and travel experiences framed the .orientexpress application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Heritage travel brands carry an unusual namespace question: the name evokes a specific historical service with cultural standing well beyond the company operating it, which makes the trademark claim both stronger commercially and more contested culturally.

The application also illustrates a structural risk of brand strings: an extension is permanently bound to its name, so a group that later rebrands finds its namespace stranded. Luxury travel in particular carries a booking-fraud exposure, since deposits are large and paid in advance. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
