.mtpc Domain Information
Electrical and industrial equipment manufacturing framed the .mtpc application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. The string is a four-letter initialism compressed from a longer corporate name — a construction common among Japanese industrial applicants, whose full names are often lengthy in Latin transliteration and unwieldy at the top level.
Initialism strings carry a recognition problem that full names avoid: they are compact and easy to type, but mean nothing to anyone outside the company's existing counterparties, which weakens the case for developing the namespace publicly. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
