The Applicant, PT Comunicações, S.A., a major company of the Portugal Telecom Group, is the largest provider of telecommunication services and Internet access provider in Portugal. MEO is one of the key brands under which the Applicant provides triple-play home telecommunications services in Portugal (ADSL2+, FTTH or Satellite link).

According to the Applicant, the mission and purpose of the .MEO gTLD are manifold, as will be further explained below:

i. first and foremost: securing and protecting the Applicant's key brand ("MEO") as a gTLD;

ii. reflecting the MEO brand at the top level of the DNS' hierarchy;

iii. providing stakeholders of the Applicant with a recognizable and trusted identifier on the Internet. Such stakeholders include, but are not limited to:

• its subsidiaries in various countries;
• about (include rounded number of) official dealers and retailers of MEO's products and services;
• affiliate partners;
• sponsors;
• prospective and current customers; and
• directors and officers of Portugal Telecom Group and its subsidiaries, including employees.

iv. providing such stakeholders with a secure and safe Internet environment, under the control of the Applicant, in which they are able to obtain genuine information from and communicate with the Applicant and its approved stakeholders;

v. providing a central point of access that is useful and secure, where prospective and current customers might utilize services, such as recharge, bill pay, contracting, and phone purchase, etc., currently offered through http://www.MEO.pt and various other websites.

Furthermore, should be noted that Portugal Telecom is a global telecommunications operator. It is the national leader in every sector where it operates.

It is understood to be the Portuguese entity with the largest national and international projection.

It has a diversified business portfolio in which quality and innovation are decisive aspects, alongside the most advanced international companies in this sector.

The Group's activity covers every segment of the telecommunications sector: fixed, mobile, multimedia, data and corporate solutions.

These telecommunications and multimedia services are available in Portugal, Brazil and in developing international markets.

Portugal Telecom's international footprint spreads to countries like Cape Verde, Mozambique, Timor, Angola, Kenya, China, Brazil, S. Tomé and Príncipe and Namibia.

In the Brazilian market, PT is present in Oi, the largest telecommunications operator in South America, and in Contax, Brazilʹs leading contact center services company.
