Children's confectionery framed the .kinder application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. The string sits in genuinely difficult territory: it is the ordinary German word for children, a common English comparative adjective, and a confectionery brand, which means a single applicant's trademark rights collide directly with everyday vocabulary in a major European language.

Cases of this kind shaped the round's most contentious policy arguments, since granting such a string forecloses it for every education, childcare, and family organization in the German-speaking market. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
