.infy Domain

The .infy string is the short-form counterpart to .infosys, applied for in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program on a principle recurring throughout the round: abbreviations and ticker symbols are what counterparties type and what advertising uses, so leaving the short form unclaimed undermines the protection the longer string was meant to provide.

Four-character strings sat just below three-letter ones in the round's scarcity hierarchy — brief enough to carry the practical advantages of a compact extension while attracting considerably less contention. In practice, paired applications proved costly to sustain, since each string carries independent registry obligations while traffic concentrates in one. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
