.ifm Domain

Industrial sensors, position detection, and automation control systems sit behind .ifm, a three-letter closed extension from ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Sensor manufacturers supply components specified into production lines that run for decades, where datasheets, wiring diagrams, and configuration parameters are consulted long after the original purchase by maintenance engineers who may have no relationship with the supplier at all.

Use covers product and sensor content, technical documentation, industry application resources, and country sites. Registration is closed to the public and the extension carries no aftermarket. Three-character strings were the round's scarcest asset, so the application secured an irreplaceable piece of namespace alongside its documentation rationale — German industrial applicants were among the more systematic participants in pursuing exactly that combination.
