Broadcast television, film, and sports production sit behind .fox, a three-letter restricted extension from ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Media applicants faced two overlapping problems a closed namespace addresses: unauthorised streaming of live programming distributed through domains imitating official addresses, and fabricated content attributed to a recognized newsroom or studio brand.

Use covers network and program content, sports and live event destinations, local affiliate resources, and campaign sites. Registration is closed to the public and the extension has no aftermarket. The string is also a common English animal noun, and at three characters it sits in the scarcest class of asset from the round.
