.fls Domain

The .fls extension is a three-letter string applied for in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program, filed alongside a longer companion string by the same applicant — a pairing used repeatedly across the round, where an organization secured both its full name and the abbreviation customers and counterparties actually use.

The logic was sound: leaving a recognized short form unclaimed would undermine the protection the longer string was meant to provide, since abbreviations attract typed traffic and are what an impersonator would reach for first. In practice, paired applications proved expensive to sustain, since each carries independent registry obligations. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration.
