.etisalat Domain Information
Telecommunications across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia framed the .etisalat application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Regional carrier groups operating in many countries face a compounded version of the telecom namespace problem: subscriber self-care, billing, and top-up pages exist separately in each market, historically on unrelated country-code domains that gave customers no consistent pattern to recognize.
Middle Eastern participation in the round was concentrated among telecoms, banking, and government-linked applicants, a small contingent relative to the region's market size. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and cannot be registered by any party.
