Household cleaning and bathroom care products framed the .duck application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program, filed as part of an eight-string portfolio covering a consumer goods group's corporate name and several of its individual product brands. Product-level applications of that kind reflected a view that shoppers recognize the product, not the manufacturer — commercially sound, but it committed the applicant to registry obligations across eight separate namespaces.

ICANN accepted termination of the whole portfolio in January 2022, retiring the group's brand extensions together. The string is also an ordinary English noun, so its withdrawal returns a common word to the pool of strings unavailable to anyone. It cannot now be registered, transferred, or acquired by any party.
