.doha Domain

Unlike the brand strings around it, .doha was proposed in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program as a geographic extension for the Qatari capital, intended for local institutions, businesses, cultural organizations, and tourism rather than a single registrant. Geographic applications followed a distinct process requiring documented support from the relevant public authority — a requirement that materially shaped which city and regional strings advanced.

City TLDs serve a different function from brand extensions: value lies in signalling local identity and relevance to a specific audience, not in restricting who may register. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration by any party.
