Postal and mail services framed the .deutschepost application in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Postal operators make the brand TLD case about as plainly as any sector can: delivery-notification phishing is among the highest-volume scam categories worldwide, built on messages that direct recipients to a fake redelivery or customs-fee page, and it works precisely because recipients are genuinely expecting a parcel.

A namespace closed to outside registration gives customers a fixed reference point for what a legitimate notification looks like — arguably more valuable to a national postal operator than to any commercial brand, given the breadth of the population reached. The extension is not currently active in the DNS root zone and is not available for registration.
