Global consumer and institutional banking sits behind .citi, a short closed extension from ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Banks operating across dozens of regulated jurisdictions face a structural domain problem: each market historically required its own country-code address, leaving customers no consistent pattern by which to recognize a genuine one. A single owned extension resolves that inconsistency everywhere at once.

Domains under .citi cover retail and commercial banking, card services, institutional and markets content, and country operations. Registration is closed to the public and the extension carries no aftermarket. The four-letter string has particular value in a sector where customers are trained to scrutinise addresses — short enough to be read at a glance in an email client or a mobile address bar, which is where most domain-based fraud succeeds or fails.
