Mass-market passenger vehicles and trucks frame the .chevrolet application from ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. High-volume marques had the strongest version of the automotive consolidation argument: dealer networks running to thousands of outlets generate enormous quantities of locally targeted domains, and without an owned extension there is no reliable way for a buyer to tell an authorised dealer site from an unaffiliated lead-generation operation.

The application did not proceed to delegation. No registry agreement was ever signed, so the extension has never existed in the DNS root zone — these were withdrawn as a group by a single automotive applicant before any agreement was reached. Strings in this position cannot be registered, and returning one to consideration would require a new ICANN application round.
