Performance and activewear apparel sit behind .athleta, applied for in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program as a closed retail namespace. Apparel brands entered that round with counterfeiting as the central concern: fake outlet stores are built on domains chosen precisely because they read as plausible extensions of the real brand, and take-down enforcement is slow relative to how quickly a new one can be registered.
