.africamagic Domain

The .africamagic domain extension was applied for in ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program as a namespace for African entertainment broadcasting and content channels. It was one of a small cluster of media applications from the African market in that round, reflecting an ambition to anchor regional programming, talent, and audience engagement in a namespace not dependent on a shared global registry.

Its registry agreement dates from March 2015 and the extension held Specification 13 status before termination. It was one of a group of related media strings retired together — channel-brand extensions proved particularly vulnerable to portfolio restructuring, since channel names change more readily than corporate identities and a retired channel leaves its extension without a purpose. The string cannot be registered.
