The .zero extension is one of the round's closed generics: an ordinary English numeral and noun delegated on a restricted basis through ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program rather than opened for registration. The word carries broad and growing independent demand — net zero, zero waste, zero trust, and zero emissions are all established terms in sustainability and security.

There is no registration channel, pricing, or aftermarket for .zero domains. Its foreclosure is more consequential now than it was at the application date, since the climate and security vocabularies that make heaviest use of the word developed substantially after the round closed.
