Is .web a domain?
Yes. .web is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) approved by ICANN and delegated into the DNS root zone in July 2026. Verisign operates it. It is a real extension you will be able to register a name under, not a generic phrase for a website address.
When will .web domains be available to register?
Verisign has said it plans to begin offering .Web through registrars in late 2026, with General Availability most likely in early 2027. Specific dates for Sunrise, the Limited Registration Period, and General Availability have not been published. We update this page as soon as they are available, and we email everyone with a free pre-registration.
Can I get the .web version of my .com domain?
That is the purpose of the Limited Registration Period. Verisign has confirmed that holders of .com registrations will get the opportunity to register the matching .web name before general availability opens to the public. The rules, length, and pricing of that period have not been published. Pre-registering your name with us now is the simplest way to be notified as soon as they are.
How much will a .web domain cost?
Verisign has not published .web pricing. Because .web falls under ICANN's Base Registry Agreement rather than the agreement that governs .com, Verisign has more pricing latitude than it does with .com, including the ability to designate premium names. We will not guess at a number. You'll get an email with actual pricing before you're asked to commit to anything.
Does it cost anything to pre-register a .web domain?

Why should I pre-register new top-level domain .web now?

Does it cost anything to pre-register .web?
The .web pre-registration process is completely free. You will only be required to provide a valid email address and your other contact details. Only when the gTLD is open for registration and you wish to register the domain name will you be required to provide a credit card and payment.

We may send you an email regarding your .web free pre-registration to confirm you request. If this email is not deliverable, your account will be closed and your free pre-registration will be deleted.

Am I obligated to register a .web domain I pre-registered?
No. .web Pre-registrations are non-binding and free. Once we receive information regarding the domain policy and we know the price, you will be asked to confirm your pre-registration, which would allow you to change your non-binding pre-registration into a binding General Availability Pre-Order.
