About .web

Country flagLogo for .web Domain

Web is the internet's most familiar word, distilled to three letters. Simple to say, simple to remember, simple to type, the kind of name people already use every day without thinking about it.

.WEB runs on Verisign's infrastructure which is the same network that has kept .Com and .Net online without interruption for almost 30 years. A new namespace, backed by the most proven system in the industry from day one.

Own the Internet’s Next Big Address

A clean slate. The .Com namespace has over 160 million registrations. Nothing is registered in .Web yet, so the name you actually want has a real chance of being available.

Run by the registry behind .com. Verisign has operated .com with 100% DNS availability for more than 29 consecutive years. .Web runs on the same infrastructure — the same Shared Registration System and the same global DNS constellation.

A name that explains itself. yourbrand.web reads as an address without needing explanation. For anyone who lost the .com to a squatter or a price tag, it's a credible primary rather than a compromise.

  • DNSSEC: Required of the registry under ICANN's Base Registry Agreement. Registrar availability to be confirmed at launch.

If you own a .com, read this: The Limited Registration Period is the part that matters to you. Verisign's CEO stated that all .com holders will get the chance to register the same name in .web before general availability opens. A free pre-registration is how we make sure you hear about it in time.

Frequently asked questions about .web

Is .web a domain?
Yes. .web is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) approved by ICANN and delegated into the DNS root zone in July 2026. Verisign operates it. It is a real extension you will be able to register a name under, not a generic phrase for a website address.
When will .web domains be available to register?
Verisign has said it plans to begin offering .Web through registrars in late 2026, with General Availability most likely in early 2027. Specific dates for Sunrise, the Limited Registration Period, and General Availability have not been published. We update this page as soon as they are available, and we email everyone with a free pre-registration.
Can I get the .web version of my .com domain?
That is the purpose of the Limited Registration Period. Verisign has confirmed that holders of .com registrations will get the opportunity to register the matching .web name before general availability opens to the public. The rules, length, and pricing of that period have not been published. Pre-registering your name with us now is the simplest way to be notified as soon as they are.
How much will a .web domain cost?
Verisign has not published .web pricing. Because .web falls under ICANN's Base Registry Agreement rather than the agreement that governs .com, Verisign has more pricing latitude than it does with .com, including the ability to designate premium names. We will not guess at a number. You'll get an email with actual pricing before you're asked to commit to anything.
Does it cost anything to pre-register a .web domain?
No. Pre-registration is free and requires no payment details — just a valid email address and contact information. You only pay if you choose to proceed once pricing is published.
Am I obligated to register a .web domain I pre-registered?
No. Free pre-registrations are non-binding. When policies and pricing are announced, we'll ask you to confirm, at which point you can convert it into a binding pre-order or simply walk away.
Who is the registry operator for .web?
Verisign, Inc., based in Reston, Virginia. Verisign has operated .com and .net since 2000 and won the rights to .web in a 2016 ICANN auction.
Why should I pre-register new top-level domain .web now?
Pre-registering a .web domain will allow us to submit your domain for registration as soon as it becomes possible to do so. This is the best way to secure your chance of owning a new gTLD domain. By pre-registering you will not have to worry about missing any deadlines and because pre-registration is free, you have nothing to lose. Also submitting a free pre-registration allows 101domain.com to update you on pricing, policies and deadlines. Unfortunately, 101domain.com cannot guarantee that we can successfully register a .web pre-registered domain.
Does it cost anything to pre-register .web?
The .web pre-registration process is completely free. You will only be required to provide a valid email address and your other contact details. Only when the gTLD is open for registration and you wish to register the domain name will you be required to provide a credit card and payment.

We may send you an email regarding your .web free pre-registration to confirm you request. If this email is not deliverable, your account will be closed and your free pre-registration will be deleted.

Am I obligated to register a .web domain I pre-registered?
No. .web Pre-registrations are non-binding and free. Once we receive information regarding the domain policy and we know the price, you will be asked to confirm your pre-registration, which would allow you to change your non-binding pre-registration into a binding General Availability Pre-Order.
How much will the .web yearly registration fee cost?
Pricing information for the new gTLDs .web is not yet available. Any users with free pre-registrations will be notified by email once this information is available.
