Video sharing and online community services sit behind .nico, a short restricted extension from ICANN's 2012 New gTLD Program. Video platforms carry a distinctive exposure: creator accounts hold monetisation relationships and audience access, which makes credential theft worth more than the individual account and gives impersonation a direct commercial motive.

Use relates to platform and community destinations. Registration is closed to the public and the extension carries no aftermarket. The string is also a common given name and diminutive across several European and Latin American languages, giving it substantial independent recognition — a collision typical of short strings, which accumulate meanings faster than longer ones.
