.EU IDNs – Pre-Register Now!

We would like to remind you of the launch of EU IDNs: EURid will launch Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs) under .EU on December 10, 2009, 11:00 CET (10:00 UTC).  There will be no Sunrise period, and these domains will be registered on a  first-come, first-serve basis.

You can submit your pre-registrations here:  Live registrations begin December 10, first-come, first-serve!

With the implementation of IDNs under .EU, it will be possible to register domain names using the characters of all the 23 official languages of the European Union, including Cyrillic and Greek scripts (e.g. the German umlauts ä, ö and ü), however the use of ß character is not allowed in an IDN due to DNS limitations.

The maximum length of an IDN under .EU is 63 characters.

You are not allowed to mix character sets (for example Latin, Greek and Cyrillic) in a single IDN.  This means each IDN must use characters from a single (1) character set only.

You can verify if your IDN is valid here:  If you aren’t sure, we can check for you.

Visit to submit your .EU IDN registration as of December 10th.
