Losing the Internet
The United States government is not only closed and losing faith from their constituencies, but it is also losing the Internet. During a Internet summit in Uruguay the five major leaders of the Internet pledged to move away from the control of the US government. This pledge was made by the directors of ICANN, the Internet engineering task force, Internet architectural board, World Wide Web consortium, the Internet society, and all five major regional registrars. The purpose of breaking allegiance with the United States government is to give other governments the opportunity to have equal stakes and say in the future of the Internet. Other concerns have arisen with the recent news of the United States monitoring and surveilling the Internet. It was announced that the next Internet Summit will be held in Brazil whose skepticism of the United States and surveillance has been a heavy topic in the media. To read further click here.
