ICANN approves New Name System

In Singapore, ICANN Board of Directors has approved a brand new Domain Name System. The vote was decided by thirteen to one. It was decided that they would dramatically increase the number of domain name endings. This new internet name system will allow groups and people to have more creativity when naming their site. The New gTLD’s will be able to end in any word in any language and will allow companies to identify themselves by brands. Examples of such branding would be .hotel, .beer, .city, etc. The application process to obtain these gTLD’s will be lengthy to ensure brands will be decided correctly. However, this decision came with many years of discussion through out the internet community. Discussion made all attempts to address concerns from around the community. ICANN will lunch a campaign to make the world aware of the new opportunities with this change. Click here for more information.
