The highest court in the European Union ruled today that .EU domain names may only be sold to trademark holders who have an established presence in the EU. The dispute came about  between a Belgian eyewear company Pie Optiek SPRL and intellectual property consultant Bureau Gevers SA. Pie Optiek argued they had the right to the Trademark right to the domain name, although Bureau Gevers SA  registered its application during the sunrise period for the domain The court ruled that that the domain name .EU is supposed to created an identified link within the Community and an associated legal framework.  To read further click here.
