.TR Domain Requirements & Criteria Turkey FAQ - Can I register a Turkish character-encoded domain name?
- In accordance with the proposal of ".tr" Domain Names Administration and the subsequent decision determined by DNS Working Group on October 19th, 2006, individuals and legal entities are able to register Turkish character (?, ?, , ?, , ) encoded domain names.
- I have a registered .tr domain name, what should I do to register the Turkish representation of it?
- * The owners of registered .tr domain names will be able to apply for the Turkish representation of their ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) encoded domain names until March 4th, 2007. (The applications will be assessed based on the documents submitted previously and therefore, there will be no documents required during registration).
* From the foregoing date onwards, on the ground of the current rules and regulations- all applications for Turkish internet addresses will be registered on the basis of first come first served policy without regard to the ownership and contact information of the existing domain names. - Are there specific reserved categories of .TR domain names?
- * ".com.tr", ".biz.tr" and ".info.tr" are sub-domain names for individuals and organizations involved in commercial activities-according to certificate;
* ".net.tr" is a sub-domain name for institutions and organizations which offer internet supply services, value-added wide-scale services such as web, portal, scanning, e-mail, etc. over the internet and application supply services;
* ".org.tr" is a sub-domain name for institutions and organizations such as foundations, associations, NGOs and alike;
* ".web.tr" and ".gen.tr" are sub-domain names for which individual and organizational applications (general) can be made and the allocation is made on a "first come, first served" and "domain name-individual/organization relation is not required" basis;
* ".av.tr" is a sub-domain name for freelance lawyers, law offices and lawyer partnerships;
* ".bbs.tr" is a sub-domain name for institutions and organizations offering BBS (Bulletin Board System) services;
* ".name.tr" is a sub-domain name for the personal use of Turkish citizens and foreigners living in Turkey;
* ".tel.tr" is a sub-domain name that can be allotted to individuals and organizations residing in Turkey, related with all kinds of the telephone numbers that they use in Turkey;
* ".gov.tr" is a sub-domain name for Turkish governmental organizations and institutions;
* ".bel.tr" is a sub-domain name for Turkish city and town municipality organizations;
* ".pol.tr" is a sub-domain name for the Turkish Police organization;
* ".mil.tr" is a sub-domain name for the Turkish military institutions and organizations;
* ".k12.tr" is a sub-domain name for Turkish primary and secondary schools that are approved by the Ministry of National Education;
* ".edu.tr" is a sub-domain name for Turkish higher education institutes that are recognized by Higher Education Council (YK). - Can an individual or a company abroad register a ".tr" domain name?
- In regards to ".tr" registration applications which are made based on the foreign originated documents by individuals or legal entities established abroad, applicants are requested to prove that the phrase/name/letter string chosen as the domain name is either used in Turkey by the rightful owner (or the authorized company/individual) or they are in business venture to do so.
* In other words, applicants must show business activity in Turkey (at least they are in business venture to do so) or have business relationship with a company which is present in Turkey (distribution agreement etc.). Otherwise, from the above mentioned date onwards it is not possible for a foreign individual or company to register .tr domain name. - Do the required documents have to be from Turkish authorities?
- It is not necessary for an organizations to function in Turkey or obtain the application documents from Turkish authorities in order to register a .tr domain name. Registration Certificate from organization's original country is sufficient to use. (If the document is not in English or Turkish, an interpreted copy of it have to be attached to the original document).
