  • What is a domain name?
  • A Domain Name is your address on the Internet. It is your unique identity on the Internet that corresponds to your numeric address "IP." Or in simple terms, a domain name is the part of your Internet address that comes after "www".
  • What does .ST stand for?
  • The two-letter abbreviation, .ST, is a unified standard system agreed upon to identify and reserve domain names specified for Sao Tome and Principe.
  • What does it mean to "register" a domain name?
  • The Internet Domain Name System (DNS) consists of a directory, organized hierarchically, of all the domain names and their corresponding computers registered to particular companies and persons using the Internet. When you register a domain name, it will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate (DNS information) during the period the registration is in effect.
  • What are the different states a domain can be in?
  • * Domain is free = The domain is free and available to register. The current pricelist is applied.
    * Domain is reserved/offline = Someone has registered the domain, but it is not pointing anywhere and has no DNS-record.
    * Domain is active = The domain is registered and has a DNS-record (it is pointing somewhere).
    * Domain is expired = The DNS-record for the domain is removed. As a result the traffic to the domain will not get through. If the domain owner does not renew the domain within 14 days from the expire date, the domain will be locked and available for anyone to register.
    * Domain is locked = The domain is available for anyone to register at a higher price. If the domain owner does not renew the domain within 14 days from the locked date it will change status to free.
  • Will my name and contact information be publicly available?
  • Yes. Information about who is responsible for domain names is publicly available to allow rapid resolution of technical problems and to permit enforcement of consumer protection, trademark, and other laws. This information available to the public on public "whois" sites.
