  • Can I register domain names directly under .mx?
  • No, since March 1997 it is not possible to register domain names directly under .mx. Before 1997 they used .mx for domain names of educational institutions, but since November 1996 they added edu.mx and since this moment it is not possible anymore to register domain names directly under .mx.
  • What are the types of domain names that I can register?
  • There exist different classifications of .mx domain names you can register:
    *Types of domain names:
    .com.mx = Everyone
    .net.mx = Internet Service Providers In Mexico
    .org.mx = Non-profit organizations
    .edu.mx = Mexican research or educational institutions
    .gob.mx = Governmental institutions and offices (Federal, State or Local)
  • What are the requirements for domain name applicants?
  • 1) The applicant has to provide the name and IP-address of the DNS server for the domain name or names he/ she applies for.
    2) When the applicant provides the IP-address of the DNS-server, he/ she should receive a response about the queries about the domain name.
    3) It is essential to supply the data that NIC Mexico request to apply for a domain name.
    4) The applicant has to supply the data of the organization that applies for the domain name.
    5) Some classifications of domain names request additional requirements.
    6) If an application for a domain name does not comply with the requirements, the domain name will not be accepted.
    7) NIC Mexico reserves the right not to process an application for reasons other than here described.
  • What other classifications or requirements must be met in order to register a .mx domain name?
  • 1) The domain names under ccTLD.MX can be registered if you meet the requirements mentioned in the beginning of this document (see the .mx classification table).
    2) There are no domain name registrations directly under .mx, applications for this domain will not be accepted. This classification was used till march 1997, since 1997 educational institutions use edu.mx.
    3) These classifications can be enlarged, but first you have to inform NIC Mexico through their website.
