.LU Domain Requirements & Criteria Luxembourg FAQ - Who can register a .LU domain?
- According to the .LU domain name policy, an organization as well as natural persons may register domain names. You must specify on the registration form whether the entity seeking registration is an organization or a natural person.
Any entity may become the holder of a domain name .LU., independent of its place of establishment. - What are some reasons that my domain name application is rejected?
- Domain name applications which belong to one of the following categories are however rejected:
(a) the domain name contains the name of any Luxembourg municipality or village, as indicated in the "Annuaire Officiel 1995 - Vol. 2 - Aperu go-politique et localits du Grand-Duch", unless it is the local administration in question filling in the application form for its own name as a domain name;
(b) domain names which are identical to an already registered domain name, or which are identical to a previously applied valid domain name;
(c) domain names considered obviously to be contrary to public order or good morals. - What kinds of contacts are needed to successfully apply for a .LU domain?
- * ADMINISTRATIVE CONTACT (organization and private persons):
The administrative contact must be a legal representative of the organization.
The administrative contact person may be identical to the technical and/or billing contact but is all case the official contact person for administrative and policy questions concerning the domain.
The administrative contact person is the natural person named by the domain owner, who is entitled and committed as the person authorized by him to bindingly decide all matters with respect to the domain, and who is therefore the contact person. Name and street address of the administrative contact have to be given. If the domain owner does not have his residence in Luxembourg, the administrative contact in this case must have his residence in Luxembourg and has to state his serving street address. "Country : Luxembourg" has to be set by default and may not be changed. In the latter case, the administrative contact must be in possession of a power of attorney.
In case of a "moral person" the administrative contact must be part of the organization at the same address as the entity. If this is not possible, as well as for a holder as a private person without residence in Luxembourg, the administrative contact must be in possession of a power of attorney and supply the registry with this document upon registration.
This document must be joined to the application form to enable to start the registration procedure.
* TECHNICAL CONTACT:
The technical contact must be the person responsible for the DNS records of the applicant (maintaining the nameservers, DNS software, database files, etc.). 101Domain will contact this person for all technical problems related to the registration or modification of domain name data. An e-mail address must be provided for the technical contact.
7. BILLING CONTACT:
101domain sends the invoices for registered domain names to the billing contact. Please make sure the data for this contact person is always up to date as the nonpayment of the registration fees will cancel your domain name registration. - Who has to sign the application form ?
- Note: Present explanation is valid for all registrants intending to register or having a .LU domain name. When registering domains with a registrar other than DNS-LU, procedures may slightly vary.
The applicant himself has to sign the application form. If the applicant charged a service provider to handle the registration procedure, the application must be countersigned by the applicant.
