.JO Domain Requirements & Criteria Jordan FAQ - What types of contacts will I need when I apply for a .JO domain name?
- You will need three (3) contacts. The first is an administrative contact, the second contact is the technical contact, and the third is the billing contact. These may in fact, be the same person.
- What are the descriptions of each of the contacts?
- Administrative Contact:
This is the authorized person able to speak and contract on behalf of the Registrant (the owner). The Administrative Contact could be an employee from the owner organization, or the agent. The Owner and the Administrative Contact person listed in the registration form will receive e-mail notification from NITC when the registration is completed. All non-technical queries regarding the domain name shall be directed to the Administrative Contact.
Once a domain name is successfully registered, the Administrative Contact is allowed to do the following tasks:
* Change DNS info.
* Appoint a new Technical Contact
* Appoint a new Billing Contact
* Change password
* Modify the Administrative Contact record
* Request deletion of a domain name (this has to be supported by an official letter from the owner).
* Handles Payments.
** (For foreign companies registering through an office in Jordan, The Admin Contact should be the office in Jordan).
Technical Contact:
This is the person who maintains the domain name's primary name server, secondary name server, resolver software and the domain name database files. This person keeps the name server running.
The Technical Contact answers all queries regarding technical matters, and interacts with technical people in other domains to solve problems affecting the domain name. Only the owner and the Admin Contact person listed in the Registration form will receive e-mail notification from 101Domain when the registration is completed. Once a domain name is successfully registered, the Technical Contact is allowed to modify Technical Information and DNS data:
* Log in by using username and password
* Enter Modification Form
* Add new DNS record to activate the domain name.
* Modify primary name server record.
* Modify secondary name server record.
* All modifications will be verified by 101Domain.
Billing Contact:
All billing and payment matters shall be the responsibility of the Billing Contact. All invoices will be posted to the Billing Contact's address. The Billing Contact is responsible for modifying the billing information. The Administrative Contact will be notified of all modifications done by the Billing Contact. - What is the break down of second-level domains?
- The second level domain names available under .jo include:
* .com = for commercial organizations.
* .org = for non-commercial organizations.
* .net = for networks and Internet Service Providers with a valid license.
* .edu = for Universities and educational institutes.
* .sch = for Schools.
* .gov = for government organizations.
* .mil = for military organizations.
* .myname.jo is open to organizations who opt to register directly under .jo. - What are some terms and conditions that applicants must abide by?
- 1.1 The TLD .jo is open for companies/organizations who are registered in Jordan.
1.2 The owner of the domain name/ or his representative must be registered in Jordan.
1.3 Domain Names may be registered for active usage or for inactive usage (reservation for future use).
1.4 101Domain will register the names on the basis first come, first served." All requests will be processed on an equal basis.
1.5 Any organization outside Jordan may register domain names through a residing agent provided he has a licensed active office and is authorized to represent the applying organization in Jordan. In this case, the owner of the domain name is the company/organization outside Jordan and not the representative office.
1.6 The domain name must reflect the whole name of the company/ organization or part of it, or a trade mark owned by the company.
1.7 A third party can register the domain name on behalf of the company/ organization if authorized to do so by the owner.
1.8 NIC may require evidence to the authority of the agent.
1.9 Submitted domain names should not interfere with the rights of a third party.
1.10 Any company registering under .jo is required to provide a copy of their legal documents (eg, commercial registration, license, trademark registration, etc...).
1.11 Domain names under .gov must be presented with an official letter from the ministry/public department.
1.12 The administrative contact should be residing in Jordan.
1.13 The technical contact can be outside Jordan.
1.14 The domain name being registered should not be used for any unlawful purpose or activities not permitted by the Jordanian law.
1.15 Domain names must not be registered to be resold again.
1.16 Registered active domain names must have an operational primary and secondary Domain Name System (DNS) server. Both need permanent IP connectivity to the Internet for queries and zone transfers to be easily checked for operational status and database accuracy at any time. - How can my domain name and and/or registration be rejected?
- 101Domain will notify registrants of a domain name, of acceptance, rejection or modification, by fax or telephone or email. 101Domain will reject domain name applications:
1) If entries in the application form are incomplete.
2) If domain names are identical with an already registered domain name, locally or globally or obvious name conflicts with another name, trade name, trade mark, service mark, etc.
3) If domain names do not comply with public ethics.
4) If domain names are registered in an attempt to resell them again.
5) If personal names are not supported by legal documents (Commercial registration documents).
6) If domain names infringe on the legal right of a third party.
7) If the domain name is misleading and is confusing for users of the internet.
8) If primary and/or secondary DNS server(s) do not respond properly.
