  • What is a domain name?
  • A Domain Name is your address on the Internet. It is your unique identity on the Internet that corresponds to your numeric address "IP". Or in simple terms, a domain name is the part of your Internet address that comes after "www".
For example, in http://www.abc.com.et the domain name is abc.com.je
"abc" is the name of the company ABC (fictious name)
"com" is to represent that ABC is a Commercial Company and
"je" the top level domain that represents Jersey and the Channel Islands.
Domain names provide a system of easy-to-remember Internet addresses, which can be translated by the Domain Name System (DNS) into the numeric addresses (Internet Protocol (IP) numbers) used by the network.
  • What is a .JE domain name?
  • The .JE Domain, which is also called .JE ccTLD (country code Top Level Domain), is the top level domain on the Internet allocated for use by Jersey and other British Channel Islands by ICANN (Internet Coporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).
  • What should my domain name not be used for?
  • 1) It is a Condition of our Agreement that you do not use, or permit the use, of any .GG or .JE domain for illegal or unlawful purposes.
    2) If it reasonably appears to the Registry in consultation with its own legal advisors, and/or the relevant Insular Authorities (for example, members of the Channel Islands Governmental Advisory Committee on Domain Names and the Internet, the Law Officers of the Crown in either Bailiwick or the Islands' police forces) that a domain name is being used in contravention of the law of any of the British Islands, or to promote or assist such contravention, the Registry (whether using its own discretion or upon receiving a complaint about use of a domain for such purposes) may suspend or cancel the domain without notice, or by giving such notice as appears to be reasonable to the Registry in the circumstances.
  • Why is there a separate registry for the Channel Islands?
