The maximum length of each component of a domain name (sequence of characters delimited by dots ".") is 63 characters. For example, the domain name "donald.duck.it" is composed of 3 components: a first level component named "it" of 2 characters; a second level named "duck" of 4 characters and a third level named "donald" of 6 characters.
In domain names under the ccTLD "it", the length of the second level component must be at least 3 characters.
What characters can be used in a domain name?
Characters allowed to be used in the domain names are "a" to "z" letters, "0" to "9" numbers, and the symbol "-" (hyphen). Domain names cannot begin or end by "-" (hyphen) and cannot begin with the string "xn--".
