.CY Domain General FAQ Cyprus FAQ - What kind of domain names can I register?
- The .CY TLD, is divided into five SLDs (Second Level Domains) as follows:
*ac.cy = Academic and Research Institutions
*com.cy = All commercial institutions
*net.cy = Internet Service Providers
*gov.cy = Government (as interpreted at the international level) institutions/departments/organizations
*org.cy = Not for profit associations or societies which have been registered at the Registrar of Associations and Societies
*pro.cy = Professional organizations and associations
*name.cy = Names of natural persons
*ekloges.cy = Organizations or individuals affiliated with elections
*tm.cy = Trademarks officially registered at the Registrar of Trademarks
*ltd.cy = Private and Public companies with limited liability registered with the Registrar of Companies
*biz.cy = Any other business which have been registered with the Registrar of Companies
*press.cy = Press related organisations and entities
*parliament.cy = Cyprus House of Parliament and related entities
- Who is the licensee of a domain name?
- License to use a domain name is issued to the organization/individual (registrant) which appears on the Part A1 and A2 of the registration form. According to this, the license to use the domain is issued to the registrant. It would be wise to check that the "ownership" information is not listed as the ISP, but rather as your own - company or personal name. Please also note that E-Mail and physical addresses are crucial for proper registration and maintenance.
- Can I take my domain name with me when I move to another ISP?
- Absolutely. If you are the licensee of the domain name, then you are free to transfer it from one ISP to another.
- Will I be notified when changes are made to records with which I am associated?
- Upon registration, modification and removal of a domain name, all contacts for the domain will be notified of the action that took place.
- Are there any types of warranties or guarantees that come with creating/renewing a .CY domain name?
- By entering into this agreement you consent to and warrant that:
1. You have obtained the consent of any individual whose personal data is to be held on the Register;
2. By completing and submitting the signed and completed application form, you hereby represent that the statements in the application form are true and correct. In general, you agree that the details and information submitted by you to us are true and correct, and that any future additions or alterations to your details and information will be true and correct, and that you will submit them in a timely manner.
3. The laws of Cyprus including international treaties ratified by the Republic of Cyprus from time to time relating to Intellectual Property issues (e.g. trademark, copyright and famous names issues), as well as the ICANN Dispute Policy, are not violated.
4. To the best of your knowledge and belief, neither the License to use the Domain Name nor the manner in which it is directly or indirectly used infringes the legal rights of a third party and that the License to use the Domain Name is not being sought for any unlawful purpose.
5. You will indemnify us if, as a result of a breach of the above, we are obliged to pay any damages or compensation to any third party as well as any reasonable costs, claims and expenses, whether direct or indirect, arising out of any claim resulting from your breach of this warranty.
