.CL Domain Syntax Rules Chile FAQ - Can I use the name of my organization as domain name?
- Domain names must meet with a number of technical requirements. You only may use letters, numbers and hyphens (-). However, the first and the last characters had to be English alphabets or numbers. You may use letters with accents (, , , , ), with diaeresis () and ees (), however you may not use spaces and underlines. The maximum length of a domain name is 63 characters, except for domain names of IDN. There is no difference between capital and small letters. For reasons just mentioned, it is possible that you have to abridge or adapt the name of your company.
- What are valid characters for my .cl domain?
- 1. The valid characters for a .CL domain will be the ones who belong to any of the two following groups:
* a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 - : this group is called LDH (letters-digits-hyphen) and are the characters that usually had been allowed to be use in domain names.
* : this group of characters is unique to the Spanish language. A domain that has any of these characters is called IDN (Internationalized Domain Name").
2. Domains names are not allowed to begin with the prefix xn--, or with any other prefix that contains two dashes in the third and fourth position.
3. Domain names are not allowed to begin or end with a dash (-).
4. The system does not distinguish between capital and small letters, both will be considered equivalent.
5. The IDN domain names, to be able to be used on the Internet, must be subject to a modification called ACE (ASCII-Compatible Encoding).
6. The maximum length allowed to a .CL domain name is 63 characters. Is important to notice that for IDN names the maximum length permitted is applied at the codified version of ACE, not the original name. In general this means that the numbers of available characters diminish.
7. The list of characters acceptable for domain names under .CL may be extended according with the need of the user community.
